Name: Terry Buyers Personal LJ: simian_grudge YM Contact Name: simian_grudge Email: sirknight at mindspring dot com Time Zone (GMT +/-): -5 (EDT/USA) Availability for Playing: most evenings, occasionally all night or all day at work
Nicknames (and who is likely to use them): Captain Tony Dollar Age: 55 Birthday: 01/01/1950 Place of Residence #1 Dippett Drive Appearance
Height: 5'10” Weight: 180lbs Eyes: blue or gray Hair Colour & Style: sunbleached brown going gray Skin tone: weathered face and arms Build: athletic, like a swimmer or gymnast Distinguishing Marks: some scarring on his arm where the Dark Mark was removed. Looks like a burn mark to most people Dress Style: (remember that most wizards would wear robes, and that there is a war going on which might effect supplies) For most purposes, he dresses like a freighter captain, which he is. Khaki pants and long sleeved shirt, dark brown tie, brown leather bomber jacket in cold weather, typical billed captain's hat. Off duty, he usually wears embroidered Slavic-style collarless tunics, also with long sleeves, loose wool or silk pants, and high black boots. He sometimes adds a long leather vest. He also can dress up in formal muggle or wizarding garb as the occasion demands. He is a Russian reserve officer and occasionally wears the uniform.
Things they would always carry with them (optional): Always has a multitool in a pouch on his belt. Carrys two wands in arm sheathes, and third down the center of his back. Generally carries a pistol butt down up between his shoulder blades and several knives. There is a concealed portkey in his hair that will take him to Morag - it matches one she wears all the time.
Other: Deals enough with the muggle world to live there and behave as one with nobody the wiser. Has changed enough in appearance from his years at sea that many people that knew him wouldn't recognize him at first.
Health
Disabilities/Handicaps: Health in general – both mental and physical: Physically in excellent health; trains just about every day. Was given to fits of melancholia which lead to heavy drinking. Had developed a fixation on Hermione after seriously injuring her in the fight at the Ministry. Since his attachment to Morag his mental health has been much improved. Other:
Personality
First Impression (others have of you): “There's that crazy, drunken, Russian, Captain Dollar.” Antonin frequently puts on an act as an uncultured Russian sailor.
General Behaviour: Outgoing, sometimes overly loud and boisterous. May contrast that by not saying anything for hours. Rude to anyone he considers his inferior, but treats his elves and children with kindness. Will almost always help someone who asks him for assistance.
Strengths: Personal bravery. Physically fit, skilled in unarmed and magical combat. Familiar with the muggle world and able to 'pass' as muggle. A man of breeding, education, and financial resources, the last from his inheritance, his gambling skill (85% chance of winning; he's good enough he doesn't need to cheat), and his smuggling and legitimate business activities over the past few years. Speaks Russian, English, French, Arabic, and the Ivory Coast trade pidgin. See else where for magical strengths. Accomplished seaman.
Weaknesses: Loyalty to a leader will last only as long as that person shows no sign of wavering or cowardice. A leader who fails Dolohov may be killed, or subjected to immediate attack. Anyone who hurts a lady in his presence is in for a thrashing, possibly broken bones or worse. If drunk enough, he may decide that the cheapest slut is actually a fine lady. He is easily bored. Only work or action of some sort will keep him completely away from drinking. Given to making 'grand gestures'.
Habits: Fairly methodical, neat, and orderly. Likes things 'shipshape'. Enjoys: The quiet of the sea/A noisy, happy, pub – either makes him miss the other after a short while. Dislikes: weak/whining men, men who abuse women or children, the LeStrange family
Other: This Dolohov is based on a character from the War and Peace novel by Leo Tolstoy. Dolohov from the War and Peace is brave but rude, cruel and violent towards most people, but at the same time very loving and caring towards his mother and sisters. He is also an accomplished card player. He is given to long bouts of melancholia; he copes by heavy drinking. Occasionally uses his reputation as a drunk to his advantage, he may not be quite as drunk as he acts. He tried libertine behavior, but it went against his veneration of his mother and sisters. He also tried religion, but found nothing there. Making large sums of money isn't something a gentleman should really be doing, but it comes so easy to him he can almost ignore how tacky it is.
Family
Spouse/partner (if applicable): Morag MacDougal Parents: long dead Sibling(s): also dead Children: Bloodline: Old pureblood Russian wizarding family Family History: Dolohov is the last of his line Pets: Mr. Teach – albatross – handles the mail duties; more of a partner then a pet Other: His mother, Anna, and his two sisters, Natalya and Maria were visiting friends in England when the original OP members attacked a nest of Death Eaters. All three were what is sometimes called collateral damage. That's what drove Dolohov to join the Death Eaters in the first place.
Social/Romantic/Sexual
Married Morag MacDougal 01/07/06. They have an open relationship, but he defers and outside partners to her choice only. Close Friendships: Was good friends with Lucius Malfoy. Still does what he can to keep Draco supplied with goods and information. Known Enemies: Most of Dumbledore's Army and the old Phoenix members if they found out who he is. Some of his competitors, the ones that aren't dead yet. Sexual Preference: Women, but not a homophobe. Turn Ons: Multiple women, dangerous women Turn Offs: A 'woman of breeding' acting like a common slut Past Relationships: Yeah. The guy is a sailor, after all. What they think about sex and love: Married, in an open relationship. Antonin and Morag tend to like the same sort of woman.
Other: Really bothered by his attack on Hermione at the Ministry. This has weighed heavily on him in the years since and helped fuel his depression. He may be ready for the love of a good-hearted woman of good breeding to finish turning him away from the Death Eaters. Of course, then Harry's lot would have to deal with having a rather accomplished killer on their side. If not kept carefully in check by the woman who becomes his one true love, and guided by a number of strong hands, he may be the one to form the SS Division of Dumbledore's Army; “You have to be as strong and ruthless as they are to beat them.” Currently operating as a freelance warrior and thorn in the LeStrange's side.
Over the past few years has begun to form a fixation on Hermione. This may transfer into a sexual susceptiblity to woman with long, curly hair and dark eyes, or he may want to adopt her to care for her. He keeps trying to care for her, and she keeps resisting.
Magical
Wand Type: Carries at least two wands, is ambidextrous. See SECRET, below.
Magical talents: Dolohov's "specialty attack" was a jet of purple light cast in a zigzag pattern which causes severe internal injury (OP31). Well versed in wind/wave/weather magic. Has taken a heating spell like Molly Weasley used on her teapot and adapted it to run the boilers on his ships. Some people refer to it as elemental fire magic. Can use it to boil someone's blood in their body. Messy. Ignored Potions, Creatures, and most charms during his days at Durmstrang. Can spellcast with either hand. See Secret, below. Since it was required of a ship's captain, he became a better than fair battlefield healer. Uses muggle equipment and medicines to make up for his lack of ability as a magical healer. He knows the Durmstrang 'submerge here/surface there' ship spell.
During the battle at the Ministry, he proved that he was one of the most dangerous Death Eaters. He single-handedly defeated Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Neville Longbottom at one time.
Magical weaknesses/aversions (what your character can't or won't do): Doesn't do a lot of spells well unless he reads them as he casts them. Tends to study his limited spell list over and over so he can throw the few he does know without words or wand. First sign of magic – when and what: - crawled into the fireplace to play with the pretty flames. Boggart: the death of his mother and sisters – he wasn't there to protect them. Knows how to Apparate (y/n): y Knows how to cast a patronus (y/n – if yes what?): y - bear Knows how to use the unforgivables (y/n): y Other: Skilled with fire and water magic, can do a bit of air magic, enough to make a breeze.
Schooling: Durmstrang followed by Russian Merchant Marine Academy (special maritime forces) and OJT until he made Master level. HIs title of Captain is not honorary, both from a civilian standing, and his military rank.
Year: (in relation to Harry's year) He's some 30 years older House: Other Affiliations: Used to be a member of the Knights of Walpurgis Best subject(s): Dark Magic, Staff Magic, Arithmancy, elemental magic Poor subject(s): Herbology, Potions Electives s/he would have taken: Astronomy, History of Magic Best Mates: Romantic interests: Level of education reached (do your characters have OWLs/NEWTs – none of the above? Have they gone on to some type of training? Remember that there is no wizarding uni and that there is a war going on): A graduate from Durmstrang, he has the European equivalents. Comfortable around dark magic and the use of a wizarding staff. Other:
Financial (Remember that in a war most people will not have much money – if any at all. Those who do profit from war are usually those who are willing to use exploit others. Keep this in mind when deciding on your character's monetary situation.)
Current Occupation: Owner, Anna, Natalya, Maria, tramp freighters, 8,000 tons, Hog Island class. Named for his mother and two sisters. (This is a real class of small steamer, now obsolete and mostly scrapped, the type name was too good to resist) Any cargo, any time, cash half in advance, balance on delivery. Dolohov frequently captains the Anna; with a crew of only 8-10, he has had a lot of time to think while standing the late watch. He does not drink at all when at sea. He also owns two 'Clyde Puffers' – 66' steamers that can run in shore up the smaller rivers, or alongside small docks in shallow water. Vital Spark and Auld Reekie. (Pictures/plans available if necessary for gaming)
“Captain Tony Dollar” is well known - by reputation anyway – among the upper levels of the underground economy. Only a few know him personally. Even fewer know his real name. He employs enough 'muscle' that his competitors tend to stay out of his way. Or else. As far as the muggle authorities go, he pays his import duties on odd herbs, raw gold (actually galleons smuggled out of England, melted down, then imported legally from an 'African Mine', industrial solvent (firewhiskey), Dutch Chocolate, etc. The really illegal stuff comes off his freighters on a dark, foggy night and is hauled to his warehouses by one of his coasters. Dragon's eggs, Purina Dementor Chow, whatever...
The past 40 years or so, the Dolohov family has been salvaging sunken ships, especially those that were carrying gold, silver, and jewelry. The family has formed a friendly relationship with the merfolk; friendly enough to have acquired the use of a permanent merfolk spell that lets anyone it is cast on live underwater for extended periods of time.
Recently, Antonin started investing in various legitimate businesses; hotels in Belize, a plantation in Africa, specialty manufacturing in the Ukraine.
Other Occupations (side incomes, volunteer work, illegal activities): Gambler. So good with cards he doesn't have to cheat to win. Monetary Situation: Far beyond well off. These days he could buy the Malfoys out of petty cash. Other: The family fortune was much reduced after the war and the bribing the Soviets to leave them alone. Antonin's grandfather started the return to great wealth when he opened the salvage company. Brief history: (what has your character been doing since the end of HBP): Building his piece of the underground economy/black market so as to make some major profits. Killing people that got in his way – especially other black market operators that attacked him. He has been extremely successful with his small shipping and salvage operation, using magic, e.g., fogs and magically enhanced storms, to hide the movements of his ships. His followers are extremely loyal partially because they are very well paid – Dolohov doesn't really need the money himself, its just how he keeps score, so he is open-handed with his rewards. As of January 2006 Antonin has divested himself of any illegal interests, except for smuggling magical items past the muggle authorities.
Current situation
Affiliations & Organisations: Faction this character supports: Role in the ongoing war: Sitting on the sidelines watching Death Eaters and Dumbledore's Army dance around each other. Dealing small lots of 'special' goods to the highest bidder. One of Draco's sources of things and information outside the country. His network keeps Tom, Aberforth, and Rosmerta well supplied with drinkables at reasonable prices, so they would know his name well. Just arrived in the area himself to solidify his distribution network, possibly cutting out a middle man or two. (This is the reason he gives, although there is an underlying reason that he will not acknowledge) Not likely to want to deal with someone beneath him socially. Draco is not only of his social status, but Lucius was a friend of his... as much as DEs have friends. Rosmerta would recognize him, and know his real name if she saw him in bright light. The are of about the same age. He was not close to the LeStranges, but they know each other
All the above changed when Antonin became entangled emotionally with Morag. Since she feels obligated to fight in the war, Antonin has taken it on himself to do as much as he can to end the war as quickly as possible. If this means wholesale slaughter of Death Eaters, he is more than willing to do the job.
Finally
What is your character's deepest, darkest secret (one that other game characters probably wouldn't know and that he/she would prefer they didn't find out about) Also list the names of anyone who might know, or might be suspicious of this knowledge: Although 5 wizards were prosecuted and imprisoned for killing the Prewitts, Dolohov was the actual triggerman. He still carries both their wands and uses them ambidextrously. If examined closely by somebody in the know, they would give him away. He does so because he found out the Prewitt twins were the ones responsible for the death of his family members.
